"Thanks for saving my life!"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Accident and emergency Pilgrim Hospital / General surgery

(as a service user),

I was admitted through A&E for stomach pain and was quickly passed through Majors , Resus and eventually Intensive Care , where l was cared for by the wonderful team for 6 days, being told afterwards that l was close to death 4 times in their care, later l was told l had Sepsis in my stomach, l know now know that the Intensive Care team Saved my life, l will be eternally grateful...

I was transferred to Ward 5 A for a further 9 days where l cannot praise the staff highly enough, l certainly had to leave my dignity as l was washed and bathed and tended to as a baby, thank you all the staff for making my ordeal  bearable and not judgemental!

Every day l was visited by my Consultant, Mr Latif, what a lovely man...l didn't realise how seriously ill l was , he put my mind at rest with his reassuring chats to me and my wife and has kept us informed of treatment after returning home!

All my follow up appointments were sorted through SDEC Where we were looked after by Jade and Zoe both excellent and couldn't do enough for me!

I am still under the care of Mr Latife and awaiting appointments.

 Thanks  for saving my life!

Hi Forever Grateful Les

Your experience sounds truly harrowing, and it’s incredible to hear how the medical team’s dedication, skill, and compassion played such a vital role in your recovery. It must have been a terrifying time for both you and your loved ones, but knowing that you were in the hands of such capable and caring professionals must have provided some reassurance.

The staff in A&E, Majors, Resus, Intensive Care, and Ward 5A clearly went above and beyond to not only save your life but also to provide you with comfort and dignity during your most vulnerable moments. Their kindness and professionalism shine through in your words, and it’s heartwarming to see your deep appreciation for them.

Your consultant, Mr. Latif, sounds like an exceptional doctor—his reassuring presence and clear communication must have made a world of difference during such a critical period.

Jade and Zoe at SDEC also sound like they played an important role in your follow-up care, ensuring that you felt looked after every step of the way. Having a compassionate and attentive team guiding you through recovery can make such a difference in the healing process.

Your gratitude is truly touching, and I’m sure that every member of the teams who played a part in your journey will be deeply moved by your words which I have shared with them all.

Best wishes

Sharon
