"Excellent care from staff working under tremendous pressure"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Emergency department Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Emergency ambulance response

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to A&E via ambulance with query stroke but was discharged after approximately 38 hours, the staff were extremely attentive and she was dealt with such professionalism and care.

I would like to mention  Nurse Bond who looked after her all day Saturday and she was excellent, also  Sister McHugh, she  was very efficient in following up for discharge, there was also a physio called Maeve? and an Occupational therapist although I didn't get  her name, they were great at preparing for discharge and ensuring she was safe and had the correct resources in place on discharge.

The department was extremely busy as you would imagine for a weekend but my mother was truly cared for and the family were informed and  treated with care and respect also, the staff were working so hard under really difficult circumstances.

I would also like to mention the volunteer who was doing the tea trolley, a young guy I think his name may be Caolan, a very polite young man volunteering is to be commended

Many thanks for taking the time to recognise the care your mother received during what must have been a very worrying time for you and your family. As Volunteer Coordinator for the Trust I am delighted to hear you encountered one of our ED refreshment volunteers. These volunteers give up of their time to offer tea and coffee to patients and relatives within the ED.

I will pass on your comments to our Saturday volunteer and ensure, as you suggest, he is commended for his efforts.

I wish your Mum a speedy recovery.
