"One nurse left alone on night shift"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma Assessment Unit

(as a service user),

The usual two nurses arrived for night shift on the ward, along with the CSW. Within a couple of hours one of the nurses had been pulled off the ward and send elsewhere. On the female side alone there were 3 incapacitated patients who were unable to toilet unaided, one of those a patient straight out of surgery. Not to mention what the patients needs were on the mens side?

I myself required 2 antibiotic IV's at 10pm meds and again at 6am, plus all of the medication to be dispensed. How is that safe? Please let me highlight here that I am ABSOLUTELY NOT commenting upon the competency of the nurse who was left alone. She done amazingly to see to all patients needs My comment is why the nurse was left in this situation and why as a patient I was YET again left to feel unsafe on this ward.

Dear moonqf35

I am sorry to hear of your experience at UHM Trauma assessment and want to assure you that it is never our intention for patients to feel unsafe while in our care. Unfortunately our services are under extreme pressure and in some areas of the hospital demand can fluctuate through the day/night and as a result staff are moved temporarily to provide support where it is most needed. We appreciate this is not ideal and has negatively impacted your time with us which we apologise for. we will ensure your feedback is shared with the managers of this team for future consideration.

If you would like to escalate this matter further. Patient affairs contact details are below:

I hope you are recovering well.

Kind Regards

Jen
