I recently had 2 hospital admissions within 2 weeks - first for major elective surgery & second for infection from surgical wounds.
My surgery was on the elective ward 4 South in Craigavon hospital and I cannot thank the staff enough for everything that they have done for me. I was very sick after surgery for a few days and unable to do anything for myself, including washing myself as I couldn't even get out of bed. Nothing was ever too much and I felt each and every staff member went out of their way to care for me and help me get through an extremely difficult time.
From the nurses & HCAs (too many to name, but thank you all so much), the doctors/surgeon's especially my own surgeon Mr Epanomeratakis and his team, you are all first class and possibly one of the only teams of doctors/surgeons I can put my absolute faith in, you never pushed me and went above and beyond to include me in my care and the decisions that were made & done everything you could to help me be as comfortable as you could at such a hard time of my recovery - thank you).
Also the support staff, ward staff, pharmacists, physios, dieticians and anyone else who helped me, thank you. Especially the support staff who went out of their way to bring me whatever I needed to make my stay a lot more bearable.
Also the angels that are the stoma nurses, Jackie, Claire & Lynne, I would be absolutely lost without them - this was my second stoma surgery in 3 years and each time I've had a lot of complications & only for them I feel I have the confidence to go home and live the best I can with my stoma and know exactly what I am doing to look after it.
My second stay was just across the hall in 4 North - I was admitted from A&E with an infection in my wound from surgery. All the doctors, nurses, HCAs, support staff, pharmacists and stoma nurses again have been incredible and an absolute asset to the hospital. Again I wasn't pushed out and felt extremely looked after to make sure I was comfortable and confident about going home.
The last 2 hospital admissions have been extremely hard on my body both physically and mentally, as expected, but with the care from all of the staff mentioned above, it was a whole lot more bearable and I would have been lost without them all. I'm looking forward to getting home now to continue my, hopefully not too long, recovery. Thank you all again.
