"My mother’s care"

About: East Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Orthopaedics (Wards 10a, 10b, 10c &10d)

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted recently following a fall at home. She was diagnosed with a fractured hip and also had a scan, which showed a terminal brain tumour. This has been devastating for the whole family. The care she received at QEUH has been excellent, professional and caring. The communication to the family through and from the nursing team has been delivered in the same compassionate professional manner.

We have nothing but praise for all the staff who have looked after my mum.

Unfortunately the same cannot be said about East Dunbartonshire social workers who, despite having made an assessment of my mum and dad’s need to move into a nursing home, caused a delayed discharge, which has lost my mum and dad valuable quality time together before she deteriorates further and dies. They misrepresented what the ward nurse had told them which delayed matters, failing to call back when I have been trying to get them to sort this out, and failing to have any sort of apology.

Dear Salvo80

I am so sorry to hear about your mother's recent fall and the subsequent deterioration in her health.

It is kind of you to take the time to share your experience of her care in the Orthopaedic ward at QEUH at what must be the most difficult time for you as a family.

It is reassuring to hear that her nursing care is being provided with professionalism and kindness and that you are being kept well informed. I will convey your gratitude, kind words and positive feedback to the nursing team.

I am sorry that you have experienced difficulties with the discharge process and hope these will be resolved soon.

Kind regards

Morag Busby, Lead Nurse Orthopaedics and Trauma
