(as a service user),

I received an appointment for a DEXA scan. 

The room is not suitable for wheelchair users so I am excluded from this vital preventative scan.

Thank you for contacting us with your concerns.

The design of the DEXA scanner and size of the scanning room unfortunately limits what moving and handling equipment and techniques we can use safely.

We can fit a standard size wheelchair into the room but our patients need to be able to stand and transfer independently with the support from a staff member.

I can't transfer without a hoist so I am excluded from having this very important test.

The DEXA scanner table is of a fixed height with tracking underneath which means we are unable to use a hoist.

The only response I get is that as a wheelchair user the scanner is inaccessible and there is no alternative. As I said I am excluded from health care at BGH due to disability and this just isn't good enough in this day and age. I feel like no one wants to help solve these issues and no one cares. So much for disability awareness.
