"Exceptionally knowledgeable and dedicated to their jobs"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as a parent/guardian),

After giving birth at 33weeks +5 days I was terrified at the thought of being separated from my baby. Whilst this experience was horrendous and something that I feel shouldn’t be allowed to happen. The staff in SCBU certainly put my mind at ease with the high level of care and nurture they gave my little boy.

SCBU has a small team so it didn’t take long to get to know all the staff who would look after my son. They are exceptionally knowledgeable and dedicated to their jobs both in terms of providing care to the babies and supporting families.

Although I am pleased to have my baby home I will miss the staff in SCBU and feel thankful that they were part of my son’s eventful journey into this world.

Thank you so much

Having a baby admitted to SCBU can be very daunting. The SCBU team endeavour to put parents as ease by explaining everything to parents and involving them with as much as possible in the care of their baby.

V create is used to help parents when leaving their baby in hospital, this is so nice to see the photos and communication to the families. Whilst this does not overcome the separation it is helpful.

We are working hard to provide facilities for a parent to stay and we appreciate this could be better. We have made changes recently where we have camp beds available to support staying with your baby and for rooming in pre discharge.
