"Outstanding kindness, services and care"

About: Outpatients Department / Complementary Therapy

(as the patient),

My fiancé was kindly offered a room at St Andrews Hospice Airdrie when his condition worsened in April 2024. Sadly he passed away on the 11 days after his admission. St Andrews Hospice offered so much help and support for me and our son. I have always supported the hospice for years, but you don’t fully understand how outstanding the kindness, services and the care of all the staff in every department, it’s very overwhelming and extremely comforting. Even tho our stay was very short at the hospice, the support I received with my fiancé and after his passing that continued.

I was offered the service of complementary therapies with a lovely woman Pauline, straight away I felt so welcomed and at ease. Pauline offered different therapies on each visit to help me relax ease maybe some anxiety, suggested reflexology that has worked amazingly and helped with my sleep.

Each visit with Pauline helped me greatly, I felt relaxed also talking away for the hour on life, or what ever happened over the last few weeks, I really got a lot out of the session, and so grateful this service was offered to me. Pauline is definitely a credit to St Andrews hospice, her warming gentle approach to helping you, even just a chat was something I looked forward to each session. Pauline managed to create an atmosphere like she was an old friend I’ve known for years, after each session this really benefited me.

I can’t thank St Andrews enough for offering me such wonderful services, and I can’t thank Pauline enough she really made a difference, such a lovely women.

Dear Kwilson07,

Can I begin by saying how sorry I am to hear about your Fiancée. I am sure that you are feeling his loss deeply. It sounds as if you have been on a very tough road and I am glad to hear that our services at the Hospice and our staff brought you some comfort at such a difficult time.

I am often amazed by the astounding people that we have the privilege to work with and to support. You have taken time to write a little bit about your story to give us this wonderful feedback. I cannot express enough how much it means to us.

The 11 very significant days that your partner was a patient in the Hospice sounds like a short time in relation to life; however, it has made a real difference to him, you and to your son. Your comments highlight everything that we try to achieve and is why Hospice care is so important. Your family's experience of our services tells us whether we are getting things right and how we should shape services in the future.

Our complimentary therapists are excellent and Pauline will be delighted to hear your comments. The benefits that you mention-easing anxiety, helping you to sleep and to relax even chatting about everyday things are so important. We see caring for carers and family as a vital part of the services that we provide.

I am really pleased that you found all of the staff here at St Andrew's Hospice to be kind and supportive and that the care has continued after your fiancée's death. We are still here for you and your son. Don't hesitate to reach out if we can offer any further assistance or support.

Thank you again for writing a little about your story. Your story not only helps us shape services but will help others to understand how Hospices can support them,

Warmest Regards,

Margaret
