"Edenderry Day Centre has been a God send"

About: Edenderry Dementia Day Centre

(as a carer),

Just over a year ago l was offered a place in Edenderry Day Centre for my husband who has Alzimers . He goes two days a week and it has been such a God send allowing me some respite . The staff are amazing the Centre is bright and welcoming .My husband has his lunch and always says he really enjoyed it .

There have been times in the last year when l needed some extra help ie: after l suffered a heart attack and then had a car accident . Joy one of the senior manager’s was on hand at these very anxious times for me offering extra days while l was incapacitated. The only down side of this arrangement is that l cannot get transport from Banbridge to Portadown from the Southern Trust . I lose 2 hours respite each day driving him to the Centre & collecting him .

All l can say is that l am so grateful that there is a Centre like this . I know my husband  is safe and is extremely well looked after by the wonderful staff there .

We as a team are delighted to hear that your husband is benefiting from the days he spends at Edenderry Specialist Dementia Day Centre, it is our privilege to care for your husband and to get to know him.

Our focus is to ensure that Edenderry Specialist Dementia Day Centre, is a home from home experience and the team always endeavour to work with dignity, respect and compassion.

I understand the challenges that you face with your own health concerns and in caring for your husband and indeed the challenges that my families face especially when there is a diagnosis of memory loss. It was my pleasure to have been in the position to be able to support you when you suffered your heart attack and then later to assist with extra 'day care' when you had been involved in the car accident.

It is encouraging to hear your kind words which will be shared with the team, and we really appreciate you taking the time to share your positive thoughts.

We are currently working closely in collaboration with the transport services for the SHCST which we recognize as such a vital part of the care and support for the service user and for you as their carer.

Kindest regards

Joy Walker SDCW
