"Blood test availability"

About: Haematology/Oncology Day Patient Unit / Clinics

(as a service user),

Overall my oncology treatment has been superb. The most difficult part at the moment is getting bloods taken in Perth. The service is great, if you can get an appointment. But appointments are only available in 3 weeks. This is no use when I only have two weeks notice of consultations.

So now, I have to travel to Ninewells to have my bloods taken. 3 hour round trip for two minutes test.

Why is this service no longer available in Perth?

Good morning SandyN

Thank you for your feedback, by way of introduction, I am a senior nurse within the oncology service. Thank you for your feedback.

It is lovely to hear that overall you feel that your care has been excellent.

Thank you for your feedback in particular about the availability of appointment's for the phlebotomy service. There is an increased demand on this service which results in reduced availability of appointments. The provision of this service is under review due to increased need and demand.

I appreciate traveling to Ninewells for this service during your treatment is not ideal.

I would urge you to approach a member of the nursing team in the PRI DPA to discuss this, the team are very accommodating and will support you in the event that you are unable to get a phlebotomy appointment locally.
