My hubby was anxious about his appointment to have two hearing aids fitted prior to attending FCH this morning . By the end of the appointment however, he was confident and felt reassured about this new major change in his life. "Ah but it's just hearing aids I hear you say...". But it's so much more than that;it's another physical reminder and step along the descending staircase that is growing old and it requires a caring, compassionate and knowledge clinician to show the way down those stairs.
Thankfully, we had that in our audiologist for the appointment, Melissa, who was was all of those aforementioned things. She took great care in explaining everything and outlining all the steps in the one hour appointment. One of the most impressive aspects of the appointment was learning about the extensive aftercare support available including a volunteer led drop-in programme of clinics.
Thank you to Melissa and to everyone in the Audiology clinics who clearly recognise that this can be a daunting prospect for some of us and do everything they can to make it seem less so. Well done ππππππ
