"Endoscopy and dilatation"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Endoscopy Unit

(as the patient),

I had oesophageal cancer in 2019. Following radiotherapy my throat closed from scarring. I was told by ENT there was no alternative to tube feeding. This was anathema to me.

I asked for a referral to gastroenterology, where I met Dr. Hall and Dr. Mainie. They gave me hope. Within 6 months of dilation I was beginning to swallow. Now 5 years later I can eat almost anything.

But the real reassurance is that they call me back at increasingly extended intervals for check ups. From reception (Lynn) nursing staff and these 2 doctors, I have, and am receiving, what can only be described as first class care.

The atmosphere, teamwork an professionalism make this unit a model to be replicated. I am a grateful patient.
