I am writing to express my profound gratitude for the exceptional care I received through NHS Tayside's healthcare services.
Having undergone treatment for serious neck cancer at Ninewells Hospital Dundee, including surgery and four weeks of radiotherapy just over a year ago, I was naturally concerned when I recently noticed an inflamed, slightly bleeding mole on my shoulder.
The response from every healthcare professional involved was exemplary. My GP practice, Lour Road Surgery, promptly arranged an appointment with a specialist nurse. Although she was reassuring, she thoughtfully referred the case to a dermatologist given my medical history.
I attended Arbroath Infirmary in February, for photography and assessment. What particularly moved me was what happened next. Despite being warned of a 2-3 week wait for results due to their busy schedule, I received a call before I had driven 300 meters from the hospital. The consultant had immediately reviewed my case due to my history and personally called to reassure me that the growth was not cancerous.
This level of compassionate care, going above and beyond standard procedure, deeply touched me. While I regrettably didn't note the consultant's name, I think it may have been Dr Bryden, I want to formally acknowledge not just her clinical expertise, but her extraordinary empathy and understanding of the anxiety patients face while waiting for results.
Such dedication and human touch, especially within the pressures of a demanding clinical environment, exemplifies the very best of our NHS. It demonstrates how individual healthcare professionals can make a profound difference in patients' lives through both their medical expertise and their compassion.
