"The whole experience was wonderful"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Crichton Ward Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Play Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was admitted to the day surgery ward (Crichton) for an upper GI endoscopy. The whole experience was wonderful from start to finish and we felt so supported by the team.

My daughter was very anxious but we had the chance to discuss these concerns in advance of coming in.

The play specialist Aisling was great at putting my daughter at ease and explaining everything.

Dr Gillett (GI consultant) was great at explaining everything to us both and involving her in the consent process.

Dr Carachi  (anaesthetic consultant) was supportive and understanding of her worries and helped give her information she needed to make a decision about what kind of anaesthetic to have and feel in control.

The theatre staff and nurses in Crichton and recovery were all so kind, we felt very well looked after us. Thank you so much to the whole team.

Dear Ricecake101,

Thank you for taking the time to post your story on this platform. We know that everyone is very busy so appreciate you taking time to do this. I manage the play team in the hospital so will make sure that Aisling sees your lovely comments and I am glad she was able to make your daughter feel at ease with everything that was going to happen.

Someone else will respond on behalf of all the other staff you mention but I just wanted to thank you on behalf of the play team.

Kind regards

Margaret McEwan

Play Services Co-Ordinator

Thank you so much for taking the time to send in some feedback. It really is lovely to receive feedback and hear that you had a positive experience while in the day surgery. I will pass on this lovely feedback to the whole team which I know will be greatly appreciated - thank you!
