My husband and I would like to share our recent and wonderful experience of the post-natal ward in Altnagalvin hospital (AAH).
I stayed with my newborn for 3 nights, and every interaction with each member of staff was extremely positive. Each midwife (including students) I dealt with was extremely passionate about their role and placed our wellbeing at the forefront of their work.
We would like to specially mention Registered Midwife Ciara and final year Student Midwife Megan, who truly went above and beyond in their roles. Their exceptional commitment, professionalism, and compassionate care made a profound difference in our experience. Both Ciara and Megan not only excelled in their duties but also inspired confidence and comfort during a pivotal time for us.
Although my experience was very positive, it was apparent that all staff and students on the ward were under a significant amount of pressure due to personnel shortages and the large patient volumes. It was clear that the staff would have welcomed the opportunity to spend more time with each patient. From my experience, I feel this is an area where the service could be enhanced to provide an even better patient experience.
