My child was sent to GOSH at the start of the year and we were so excited that our daughter was going to be looked after in the way she needed. The GOSH team have been great and my daughter has made good improvement.
However, we have been unhappy with the way parents are treated by some staff when they don't agree or challenge them in any way. We found that they immediately get you into a room and you are faced with people you don't know telling you what you are being accused of and then placed on level 1,2,3 or 4 after which you cannot be at your child's bedside whatsoever.
In my case, different levels were achieved due to becoming upset about a letter I was supposed to receive; for being misunderstood when speaking a different language; and for telling a staff member I disagreed with a decision they made. In all cases there was no investigation, no conversations. By the time they come to see you the paperwork has already been printed!
By this point they may let you talk but they do not seem to really be listening. It felt like staff were a gang; several staff members taking you into a room and dictating their rules to you irrespective of your explanation. The paperwork had already been printed backing the staff member, no matter whether they were right or wrong.
The doctors at GOSH are world class and some of the nurses too but I have to say that there are a few staff members who, in my experience, were way off the mark and the complaints process is laughable. I was made to feel that my voice does not matter.
"Treated poorly for disagreeing with staff"
