"My son being diagnosed with and treated for Osteomyelitis"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Paediatrics East Surrey Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

We went to A&E as my son had a high temperature and red warm patch on his leg. We were admitted to paediatrics but under the Orthopaedic team. After three days and two minor operations he was treated for an infected fibula. His father and I were worried as he was in a lot of pain and the infection was visibly spreading. It was stressful. We feel that the communication within and between the teams could have been improved and it could have been made more efficient with the use of technology. We were unhappy with the handling of allergies and felt unsupported.

Dear listenbz44

First of all I would like to apologise for the delay in my response.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your experience concerning your son's treatment within the Paediatric department. I am so sorry to read how unsupported you and your husband felt during the diagnosis and treatment of your son.

I hope that your son is recovering well and if you feel you would like to discuss your experience further, please contact myself at sash.experience@nhs.net.
