I attended a few meetings with the Adult Autism Team. This was after a wait of just under 3 years. It is clear that they are very stretched.
The team made me feel at ease during the first meeting and were very clear in their remit and how the assessment would be carried out. On the whole it was a good experience and they made it feel like a safe environment. I was encouraged to ask questions and every effort was made to ensure I understood. They were always friendly and I felt comfortable speaking with them. Some responses, like the pulling of sad faces etc could occasionally feel a little condescending, but I know they weren't meant to come across in that way.
On one occasion during my assessment, one of the team relayed a story to me that was triggering to me and had to be reminded by the other member of the team.
I often had to wait beyond my appointment time - often more than 10 minutes. This wasn't ideal for someone with anxiety.
