"I wont ever forget what you did for me"

About: Dame Carol Detoxification Service

(as a service user),

After just over a year of relapse, I became alcohol dependant for the first time. I was very lucky (after a year going to and fro from CGL and fighting for help for a residential placement) i was and feel extremely lucky to have landed a funded space at Dame Carol which id never even heard of or knew existed (from east sussex)

I was so so anxious coming here but as soon as I arrived I was met by a staff member and instantly reassured I will be safe and looked after and from then I struggled so much with my emotions and mental health not once did I not feel unsafe to speak to a staff member.

Nikki was amazing when I would panic about things and she had already had it in hand. I would be here for hours if i was to write about each member of staff including the student nurses drs nurses recovery workers it would be a book!

Routine is a big one here however some of the structure to it is repetitive and can make you become quite intolerant and irritable especially during a detox and everyone being at different stages.

I would like to make some tweak's to help allow others that come through not to feel the same. There should be more units like this all over the country to allow more people like me to detox safely and supportively and I believe Steve Nikki and Naomi could lead the way to make this happen!!

More funding NEEDS to be given to these guys I have been very up and down and they have all helped in some way and made me feel ready for my next stage of my recovery journey to the rehab. I have left suggestions in the suggestion box (lol wink) for the tweaks other than that big up everyone at DCDS I wish i could take you all with me and i wont ever forget what you have all done for me.
