As part of the ADHD and Autism assessment my 6 year old son needed his bloods taken in Villa 2, St Luke’s. My son was incredibly nervous (as was I) and behaviour off baseline. I used a video online to prepare him so he knew what to expect.
We came into a very large and clean waiting area with toys and books to keep him entertained. We were greeted by a lovely nurse called Janet and a final year student nurse. My son wanted his brother in with him and this was allowed. Janet was so lovely and spent time chatting with my son, making him comfortable so he trusted her before attempting to get bloods. Janet and the student were quick and obtained bloods on first try despite poor veins. Their warm approach and genuine interest in my son's interests made the procedure successful. Well done to you both!
