"I was treated with dignity, and respect throughout"

About: Primary Care Mental Health & Wellbeing Nurses / Primary Care Mental Health & Wellbeing Nursing Team - Perth City

(as a service user),

I visited Sarah, the health and wellbeing nurse at the surgery today. Sarah asked if I would mind having a student in the room. I said I didn’t and was introduced to Lesley.

Sarah asked if it was ok for her to read the report that the GP wrote at my consultation which prompted her to offer me an appointment with Sarah. Sarah asked me to tell her a bit more about what was going on in my life, which I did.

I was treated with dignity, and respect throughout. Sarah was very empathetic and listened to me, asking some questions, and picked up that I stressed and offered to email me some information on stress management which I received today.

I was a bit anxious about the appointment but it was very positive experience.

Dear Moonfs57,

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback your experiences regarding the Primary Care Mental Health and Wellbeing Nurse Service. My name is Pam Lamond and I am the Senior Charge Nurse for the service

I am so pleased to hear that you had a positive experience when you met Sarah and Lesley. It sounds like Sarah was really listening to you and was skilled at supporting you to identify the things that were stressful for you. Active listening and showing empathy is so important in understanding the experience of the individual, and being able to support that person to move forward.

Being treated with dignity and respect is essential for individuals to feel safe and trust the professional, so they can open up about their difficulties. I am really pleased this was your experience and that you were provided with information on managing your stress, which I do hope you will find beneficial.

Thank you for sharing your story and I will be sure to pass on your positive comments to Sarah, as she will be delighted to know that she was able to make your experience of the service, a positive one.

Pam Lamond
