"Blown away with the quality of care and support we received"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Cleft Lip and palate Service Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B)

(as a service user),

Our son recently went for cleft lip repair surgery at the Royal hospital for children in Glasgow. We were understandably very nervous for our baby to have surgery but were blown away with the quality of care and support we received from everyone we interacted with.

We stayed on ward 3b (general surgery) and the nurses and health care assistants took such great care of my son during his stay. They also made sure my husband and I were doing ok and had everything we needed - they couldn't do enough for us, which was greatly appreciated.

Our cleft nurse Shirley and the whole team have been a great support throughout our whole cleft journey. She visited us on the ward after our son's surgery and this made us feel supported and at ease to have a familiar face with us. Along with this, our surgeon Mr Drake was also fantastic, we completely trusted he would look after our son and he did.

We would like to give a special mention to Roderigo, who collected our son for surgery and took him back to the ward afterwards. He made me feel comfortable going down to theatre - I was so nervous to take my son down but he was so kind and funny.

Overall, we were dreading the operation and hospital stay but had such a positive and calm experience thanks to all the staff

Dear lotiontc34

We are incredibly grateful for your kind words and are so pleased to hear that your son’s surgery at the Royal Hospital for Children went well. We understand how nerve-wracking it can be for parents when their child is undergoing surgery, so it’s wonderful to know that the care and support you received helped ease your worries.

We will be sure to pass along your heartfelt thanks to the staff on Ward 3B, who work tirelessly to provide exceptional care not just to patients, but also to their families. It's fantastic to hear that you felt well supported, with everything you needed taken care of during your stay.

Shirley, your cleft nurse, and Mr Drake, your surgeon, will be thrilled to hear that their support helped make such a difference during your son's journey. The reassurance of having a familiar face during such a challenging time is so important, and we are glad it provided you with comfort.

A special thank you as well for mentioning Roderigo. We are so glad his kindness and sense of humour helped put you at ease before surgery. We’re pleased that, in the end, you had a positive experience and felt supported throughout the whole process.

We wish your son a speedy recovery and thanks again it really means a lot to the staff.

Kind regards

Kevin
