Our son recently went for cleft lip repair surgery at the Royal hospital for children in Glasgow. We were understandably very nervous for our baby to have surgery but were blown away with the quality of care and support we received from everyone we interacted with.
We stayed on ward 3b (general surgery) and the nurses and health care assistants took such great care of my son during his stay. They also made sure my husband and I were doing ok and had everything we needed - they couldn't do enough for us, which was greatly appreciated.
Our cleft nurse Shirley and the whole team have been a great support throughout our whole cleft journey. She visited us on the ward after our son's surgery and this made us feel supported and at ease to have a familiar face with us. Along with this, our surgeon Mr Drake was also fantastic, we completely trusted he would look after our son and he did.
We would like to give a special mention to Roderigo, who collected our son for surgery and took him back to the ward afterwards. He made me feel comfortable going down to theatre - I was so nervous to take my son down but he was so kind and funny.
Overall, we were dreading the operation and hospital stay but had such a positive and calm experience thanks to all the staff
