I have a chronic urological condition which has resulted in several emergency admissions to hospital for surgery. As a single parent of a disabled child, this is very distressing to manage at home. Once I shared my circumstances, I found people were very understanding of my need to have investigation and treatment that minimises the risk of further episodes. This includes specific types of surgery and having my wishes about post-operative stent use considered. Consultant Mr Kalpee and Urology secretary Vicki have been particularly helpful. In Ward 7, PRI, two nurses (Lynne and Graeme) were hugely supportive of my need to feel heard by the medical team and discuss my circumstances at home. Staff at PRI A&E have also very quickly processed my presentation and respected my desire to minimise taking opioid based painkillers until needed (they recognised that my own past experience was a good judge of what I needed rather than just telling me what to do). Huge thank you to all those involved, it means a lot to be treated as an individual.
"Great staff"
