"Poor communication"

About: Lisburn Health Centre - Dr. Ruddell & Partners

(as the patient),

I recently went to see my GP for a rubella vaccine as I had been identified as rubella non immune during pregnancy. My son passed away almost two weeks after birth and my GP was aware of this.

Whilst there my GP explained that they had mothers coming in reporting an early loss who were very matter of fact about everything, and others who seem to go through this strange grief process. I found this to be really inappropriate conversation given that I had lost my son 6 months prior to this.

I would encourage the practice to have more awareness with regards to compassionate bereavement care, as well as care for women who have either lost a baby during or after pregnancy. Comments like these belittle the already traumatic and heart breaking grief experienced by mothers when they lose a child. It also reduces levels of trust in my GP to deliver high quality care.
