"Woodstock Lodge Belfast"

About: Acute Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

I have been referred to Woodstock Lodge for mental health recovery services.

On my initial appointment I was introduced to my key worker

They seemed nice and friendly and somewhat motherly.

I am in full time employment and Occupational health advised me to get referred for CBT.

I asked them for CBT, I was told their manager does not think that I would benefit from CBT so they wouldn't put me on waiting list for this service.

It was mentioned that waiting list is 2years at present.

I was in quite vulnerable position as I don't have many people to talk to so I kinda shrug my shoulders and we moved on.

I do find it strange that some unnamed individual is able to come to a decision just like that.

This member of staff is nice person and it's good to be able to talk to someone rather than no one but I just don't feel like there is therapy element to this. They has been giving me praise and is saying how well I'm doing but it is really because I have been proactive myself as I realised that Mental health services for northern Ireland are extremely passive - I don't know where all that tax payers money go but in my opinion it doesn't reflect on services.

After making repeat prescription for diazepam from GP, I got a sudden appointment for a psychiatrist. They were delighted to hear that I'm happy to discontinue taking diazepam for my anxiety. they reduced dose for other medication after I said that it is impossible to sit still, turns out it is a side effects, so this was reduced by 5mg.

This was in June 2024.

My keyworker, my only point of contact for mental health services and it appears that the specialist advice consist of telling me to watch a candle, go for a walk, wash face and press against the wall.

In the hospital my mental health services consisted of colouring and watching TV.

You must be having a laugh. You cannot be serious.
