"Blood pressure check"

About: Millbrook Medical Centre

I've had a 6 months blood pressure check today, after getting to the phlebotomist,I got asked if I got my bp check, thoroughly confused, she kindly led me to the bp device. As someone who has white coat syndrome and germophobia, I could tell my bp will be sky high even before putting my arm in the device. I can appreciate, that for some this may speed up the check up and free some time of the nurse practitioner, but it is not for everyone. It would be nice to be informed prior to my appointment as I would ask for nurse practitioner appointment straight away rather than waste 2 mornings doing this,as I still have to come back due to the high readings. As someone who regularly checks my own bp,I know the readings are extremely skewed and incorrect due to distress of the situation. I am a very happy patient of this gp surgery, but this experience was not the best.

Dear Miss Cepelova. Thank you for your feedback. Although we are encouraging patients to use the health kiosks to have their blood pressure readings taken, you do not have to use them. Our admin staff would not be aware that you have white coat syndrome or are germophobic, however we can add an alert to your medical records to state you do not wish to use the health kiosks for future reference. I hope this helps. Thank you. Claire Gould, Practice Manager.
