My cancer treatment started in 2018 with the surgeon, Mr Dunn. He told me that I had Kidney cancer, and after that I didn't take any of the other information in that he told me. So, I arranged for a second appointment with him - he isn't condescending, he is a nice guy. After my surgery, I remember going to a ward, and seeing him there, where he told me that surgery was a success. He didn't need to come to see me but he did reassure me.
I was given a specialist cancer nurse, Moira. She is direct and forthright. She was always very busy, but whenever I needed her she always got in contact with me; it doesn't get any better than that. She was attentive and listened to what I had to say.
I was never made to feel like a factory number, I was a person.
The chemo and radiotherapy started and I remained fit throughout.
The aftercare has been brilliant. The consultant that I saw in January was very good and was also forthright. That was Dr Prettejohn.
All in all, what can I say? The NHS and the individuals I saw have done a terrific job. The staff have been brilliant. I've had all the checks I needed and the treatment I have had has been excellent because I haven't asked for any of it. The only issue I had was when I needed a wheelchair once, and there were no volunteers to help.
There's no way I can complain about the service I have received. I would recommend them, I am still here!
All departments have been very caring.
As far as I am concerned, when I walk in to RD&E, a multi-million pound building, I am the important person, and am treated as such. You feel like an individual. The service, without a doubt, is the best there is.
