"Lack of professionalism"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Acute Medical Unit (AMU)

(as the patient),

Staff moved me from A&E to the AMU and put me in a communal ward when I was C Diff positive. I was told untruths about my diagnosis. Staff then left me without help when moved into a side room after having to phone Patient Flow myself. I was refused medication from a doctor and one of the nurses used foul language on a phone call to my relative and terminated phone calls, refusing to speak to them or give their names. Appalled and shocked at the unprofessionalism from both nurses and doctors. Staff need more training and monitored on how they deal with patients and relatives. No one wants to be in hospital of their own accord and in my case, no care, compassion or empathy was given. Huge lack of professionalism from AMU in Craigavon.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience whilst on AMU

I am very sorry that you had a negative experience with the care you received. I will share this with the team in AMU.

I am also very sorry that the nurses and Doctors who spoke with you in an unprofessional way this should have been done in a more sensitive and empathetic manner. The Southern Trust promote empathy and respect and I will also be highlighting this to the staff on AMU.

Shauna
