"Amazing team of angels"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Acute Receiving Unit (Ward 2c)

(as a parent/guardian),

We were admitted to ward 2C with our 7 week old baby girl. As her mum I was functioning on very little sleep due to her being ill, I was anxious, emotional and overwhelmed. Our baby is our rainbow angel baby and watching her struggle was one of the hardest things we have been through.

The staff at 2C are the most caring, friendly and understanding staff I have ever came across. Dr Cunningham spent so much time explaining everything to me, he kept checking on us and had the best bedside manner I have ever experienced with a Dr Ward. Nurses Cat & Megan went above and beyond to make sure our stay was a home away from home. They not only looked after my girl but me too. They were empathetic, knowledgeable and the epitome of what a nurse should be.

Cat was our night shift nurse and felt like she was my team mate with the night feeds, always smiling and offering reassuring words and genuine care. Megan was there for two day shifts with us, a real angel of a nurse. Megan was obviously extremely busy in  2C but we were never made to feel like that, we felt like we were the only ones under her care, that is how attentive she was. Offering support when I was upset and giving gold standard care so naturally.

Finally a mention for student nurse Sheree! 2nd year student and a very confident and friendly nurse. Sheree was warm, approachable and nothing was ever too much for her to help with. You’re made to be a nurse.

We are only just home and I wanted to write this for the staff. A busy ward with the most outstanding care. I hope to not be back again for my daughter but was bittersweet leaving such a great team!

Dear October21,

Firstly, I want to acknowledge what an emotionally exhausting and traumatic time you and your wee baby girl have been through recently. I was so sorry to hear of how unwell she has been and am heartened that she is now at home, and hopefully recovering well.

Thank you - wow - thank you for the very generous acknowledgement of how well our team on 2C cared for you and your baby daughter. We could not be prouder of Dr Cunningham, and Nurses, Cat, Megan and Sheree - and the whole team that supported you to such a high standard whilst you were with us.

Alongside your own praise, our Senior Management team have passed on their own thanks to colleagues for their excellent patient centred care.

I hope your daughter is now feeling much better and that you, yourself have managed to have a well deserved rest back at home.

Sending warmest best wishes

Coral
