"Sit test"

About: Sidwell Street Clinic / Exeter Sexual Health

(as the patient),

Done a home test kit, got my results back which wasn’t what I was wanting to find out that I was positive for chlamydia. Panic about having to tell my new partner that I have it.

I was in shock and feel angry and disgusted in myself for catching it.

Hello Tattedblonde

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience - I'm sorry that this result was unexpected and caused you upset.

Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted infection. Around 1 in 12 young people test positive for Chlamydia but a large number of people don't have any signs or symptoms of Chlamydia, so this means that someone may pass this infection to you and not know that they have it themselves.

The good news is that Chlamydia is easily treated using antibiotics and the treatment is very effective. Testing regularly is the best method to detect infection early - this is exactly what you did and it's really good you have been proactive in sorting it out quickly.

We know that talking to partners about STI's and testing can be hard, especially if they are a new partner. It is important to remember that although it can be difficult to talk about, having this conversation shows you are being responsible and that you care for their health and well-being. Please don't panic - if you feel this conversation is just too difficult or embarrassing, this is something we can support you with, please contact us for some helpful and confidential advice.

Our team are here to answer any concerns - please call 01392 284 960 (Monday - Friday 09:15-17:00) to talk to one of our Nurse Advisers and we will be happy to help you.

Best wishes,

April Brooks
