"Psychological Therapies MPNI (MATERNITY)"

About: Psychological therapies / Maternity and Neonatal Psychological Intervention Services (MNPI)

(as the patient),

I suffered a miscarriage which then tainted my next pregnancy. I never knew at the time my mental health was deteriorating and when my child was born by an unwanted elective C-Section, I  was struggling mentally. My OCD was getting worse and I was just not enjoying the postpartum period. I had major anger towards my birth, felt I had let myself down and felt rather unsupported at my birth from friends/family.

Initially my health visitor noticed it as part of the initial care, and put me forward for CBT therapy in the local community. This helped a little in pushing me to tackle my OCD, however I wasn’t feeling better and felt stuck and that it was unlikely I’d have any more children as a result.

I reached out to my HV who contacted a whole host of services, one of which was psychological therapies at Falkirk Community Hospital.

I met Lorraine and spent over a year with her, where she massively helped me learn to cope with current life and move on from my birth trauma.

I was skeptical of EMDR but she convinced me to try it and it turned out to be the tool I needed to get over the stuck frustrations and anger, and ultimately see some beautiful positive points about my birth story.

Lorraine was so calming. I found it hard to say goodbye. She had been through some major milestones with me and supported me back into the workplace - even though my work weren’t overly supportive!

I am now living with a plan to help me continue to navigate this new life. I look back on my journey with a proud outlook that I have overcome so much. I know therapist say it’s all on the individual but I truly believe without Lorraine I wouldn’t be having a positive fulfilling life ahead of me !

Thank you Lorraine, please keep doing what you do, you are amazing!

Dear sambacg59,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences and to give feedback on the service you received from MNPI.

I was sorry to hear about the difficulties you went through in your pregnancies and that you experienced trauma at the time of birth.

It is useful to hear how a combination of psychological approaches (CBT & EMDR) helped you recover in different ways. I am pleased to hear that your future now feels much more positive. I will pass on your lovely feedback to Lorraine. Thanks again.

Wishing you and your family all the best for the future,

Rachel
