"Community dermatology availability"

About: NHS Fife

(as a service user),

I have seen community dermatology nurse practitioner in my GP surgery. I was told to make an appointment for 2 months return appointment. When I went to reception there were no dates available, as the nurse hadn't put her availability in.

I was advised to keep trying. I did this over two weeks. Only to be told the list was now full and that the clinic had just been cancelled. Meaning all March patients would be moved to April ,but so far again the nurses availability was not there for the reception to book.

Surely the appointments diary should be at least showing 6 weeks availability of the nurse? The nurse if she wants you to return in 2 months should make the appointment for you there and then. You shouldn't have to keep checking over and over to see if the clinic is available only to be told sorry its full already.

As I result I still don't have a follow up appointment. I have been told by GP practice manager they have no way of contacting the nurse. I'm afraid I find this bizarre. Who oversees the community dermatology nurse practitioners? No one seems to know.

I am very sorry to hear of the issues you faced accessing an appointment with the community dermatology nurse. I would be most grateful if you email me on katrina.wilson@nhs.scot so that I can investigate and we can arrange to discuss the matter further.
