"Parking at the hospital"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as a carer),

I’m have been taking my disabled friend to the hospital daily, who has a blue badge and requires to be helped into the hospital and due to there disability’s require to have someone with them at all times.

Firstly there is awfully inadequate parking for anyone including disabled people, we parked at the door as we had to be close to access the hospital, clearly displaying disabled badge and received a parking ticket. I found a ticket agent and questioned what he was doing, advised him he cannot take disabled cars, he was told by his manager to take everyone regardless. This has caused Alarm in distress in a very vulnerable situation.

From what I can see this private company are only out to make money and are ticketing people when it’s incorrect to make money, it’s an absolute disgrace given these people are very vulnerable when attending for the cancer treatment. This needs to be stopped immediately.

Dear Pauer56

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We deeply regret the distress and inconvenience caused to you and your friend during your visits to our hospital.

We know that our hospital sites are extremely busy, which unfortunately can lead to difficulties in finding adequate parking spaces, including people with blue badges. The Transport Team have confirmed that blue badge holders may be ticketed, (e.g. parking somewhere that may be causing an obstruction to other road users). However, if you send a picture of your ticket to: ggc.patientexperience@nhs.scot we will see if we can arrange for this be cancelled. (Would you mind including your Care Opinion username in the email).

Thank you

Nicole
