"Number of staff on the wards"

About: Rampton Hospital

(as a service user),

There is a patient on our ward with two staff, so when they are in the day room, their staff become our staff as well. We have 1 staff assigned to the rest of the patients in the day room, but that 1 member of staff has to go round and also do the checks and also do the checks.

So in total we have 3 members of staff in the day room, two of these are assigned to a patients. We should have 5 members of staff in that day room but this never happens. If we ever want to go to our lockers or laundry we cant go because there is never the staff to do this.

In the dining room we have metal cutlery out, we have 1 staff sat in their with us. Another that goes and delivers food and does the checks and another in the kitchen serving. I feel this happens all the time.

We also have seg patients in there in the dining room at them times as well. I just dont feel safe as that one member of staff in the dining room is also there for the ward seg patients.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns with us. We appreciate that there have been some challenging times recently and we have had to consider where we deploy staff to have the most impact. This always has an effect on planned staffing numbers. I would like to reassure you that we do constantly dynamically assess the situation. Please take the time to discuss with your ward team if there are specific concerns that you do have and we will consider what we can do to support you.

Kind regards.

Thank you for taking the time to raise this. Acuity on our wards has been high now since mid December, which increases the need for additional staff. I have been on all of the wards during this time to explain and listen. I have spoken with patients via the care group involvement and improvement group last week and am going to reach out to all patients very shortly via your local patient forums but also via just purple, to to get your opinions and feed back on how we can support you during this period of time.
