I had my initial appointment regarding Biofeedback at WGH Edinburgh. I like others I would imagine I was nervous, I had looked it up briefly just to see the basics which was extremely helpful as there is a lot of information to take in & helped me to know that it would be invasive.
My partner came in initially, always good to have another pair of ears, Wendy introduced herself, asked if I knew anything about Biofeedback & outlined the purpose of the appt & explained in full & simply about Biofeedback, then asked questions that were relevant to the appt. Wendy then discussed the next part of the appt & that was when I asked my partner to leave. Wendy took him to a waiting room where he could wait for me.
Wendy then went into detail about the equipment, its workings, what it is designed to do (Neurotrack Simplex) & at each stage ensuring I understood all she said. Wendy gave me a couple of choices about demonstrating the equipment. As I had come from NHS Grampian area I chose to have a practical go with it (it has to be inserted into my bum) as a patient when examinations etc are of a more personal, private nature, it can be hard for me personally.
Wendy put me at ease, no silly jokes or quips but a lovely calm, friendly, voice full of understanding & reassurance. Wendy ensured my dignity & comfort at all times was her priority, asking before she did anything & explaining what I may feel, ensuring me she would stop at any point. Wendy kindly taught me how to use the equipment & gave me tips to ensure comfort where possible.
Once all done Wendy gave me tissues to wipe gel off & let me get myself dressed & seated before she continued with explanations about daily use, answering my questions & making sure I know how to operate the equipment once I am home, we completed paperwork & Wendy pointed out the contact telephone number if I need advice or help.
Wendy made this appt which feels embarrassing less so with her kind, gentle, professional manner, for which both myself & my partner wish to thank her. Yes it is not going to be easy but knowing there's a back up in such a lovely Health Practitioner certainly has put my mind at ease. & My partner has said he felt I was in safe, caring hands so he won't be anxious for my next appt.
No idea if this will be a success & many times I personally have felt like a failure when treatment hasn't worked but for this I have no anxiety about it, as always I am positive about treatments but in this case far more so plus more relaxed - yes it can be possible even with equipment needing to be inserted in your bum...
WGH waiting areas for me are always calm, fresh & peaceful places which I would love at my main hospital. Thank you WGH for your Staff & nice waiting areas.
