"Bad experience and still ongoing"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / General Medicine (Ward 3C)

(as a service user),

First story about my son was two months old and I was registered with practice A, the doctors at practice A they don't have ability to give right diagnosis, this happened twice, one with my son he had two different diagnosis by two different doctors there, with two different medications and both are wrong as he ended up to be at intensive care at hospital as they couldn't figure out what is going on with him just given him wrong medication one for eczema and one for antifungal for mouth while he had bronchitis.

I went a lot to emergency department and they always sent me back home with my son and on that time they didn't diagnosis him well they said he is just fine !! While i stated to them he don't drink milk and had problem in his breathing so they don't care until one day he was non response and he ended up in intensive care and only one doctor diagnosis him with bronchitis.

Again happen the same with my daughter had a strong abdominal pain around her bellybutton, they gave her a course of antibiotic with wrong diagnosis again while she shouldn't take antibiotics she should get a referral to hernia surgery instead, as the hernia if not closed itself by age 4 or 5 years old so it will not close by itself and it needs repair surgery and it can cause pain around belly button and if left without repair it can cause complications in future as well. I feel these are well known information regarding hernia and also can be seen on NHS website even if you just do basic search as well.

So I decided to move to another GP practice B, they did reffral to surgeon at clinic 3 on children hospital in glasgow for her, the surgeon said no hernia there! I told them how as we did ultrasound in private clinic and they confirmed still there and yes its small and I showed them the report then they said even it is small I don't think so it is the cause of the pain I told them one doctor said my daughter had defect in her abdominal wall and hernia still present so that is maybe the cause of the pain, we asked them me and my husband to do scan for her to figure out what is wrong with her abdominal pain. They refused and said let's try to do for her special diet! We asked him how because of the food!! And why the food affect her now as she is now 6 years old this is does not make sense. They answered I don't know ok if you don't know do further investigation for her either blood test or stool test or scan to figure out what wrong and what is the cause of her abdominal pain

They said no i will do phone telephone appointment on march 2025 to check if she is better when you change her diet. Unfortunately even with changing diet my daughter still has the pain until now I tried to contact the gp for further investigation they said we refer you and that is it we can not do anything more. They said contact the children hospital in glasgow to ask for second opinion and give you another appointment with another doctor. Unfortunately I contacted the children hospital in glasgow they said my gp should do that so they make me like a ball each one kick me to another.

I am seriously worried about my daughter as even i tried to go to emergency department in children hospital they just read what was written in their system without appropriate examination for example at the beginning the gp diagnosis her as urinary tract infection and give her course of antibiotic but the result of her urine sample came clear as they said so she just get antibiotic for nothing then I went to emergency department they check their system and they said again urinary tract infection and give her another antibiotic and even the urine sample that has been done in the emergency department came clear as they stated so again she got another course of antibiotic for nothing.

Only one doctor at gp stated she had defect in her abdominal muscles and there is a blood in her urine while before they all told me the urine came clear from lab and no one mentioned there is blood in her urine.

I am seriously worried about my daughter they should believe mums as that happened before with my son they were only keep saying to me you are worried mom and then my son ended up in intensive care so i was right. And now again in the surgeon appointment and even in my last visit at emergency department they stated the same you are worried mum nothing wrong with your daughter and if you want further investigation go contact gp and gp kick me to them and said if the emergency and surgeon do nothing for your daughter then we can't do as well.

Now over 3 months my daughter still in pain and no one care just wasted a lot of appointment with gp and emergency department that made me and my daughter wait long time for nothing while they should take it seriously and arrange a CT scan, and blood test for her to check why she is in abdominal pain over 3 months but no one care untill life threatening situation happen to her.

Seriously disappointed and worried about my daughter.

Dear Aseel

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. I can see that my colleague, Coral has responded on behalf of the Royal Hospital for children. I am very sorry to hear about your concerns regarding the care your children have received at your GP Practice and for the upset and distress this has caused.

GP practices in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde operate their own feedback and complaints systems and are not registered to respond to feedback received via Care Opinion. To make sure this feedback reaches the GP surgery and that you can receive answers I would suggest contacting the Practice Manager. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this or want assistance navigating complaints and feedback processes, the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) may be able to support you. This is an independent and confidential organisation.

You can contact PASS on 0800 917 2127 or visit their website at Patient Advice & Support Service | Citizens Advice Scotland (www.cas.org.uk).

Kind Regards

Nicole
