When I was finally called for surgery, I was expecting a harried, rushed staff, doing the minimum in order to keep patients safe. I was so wrong. From the first contact with Mr Shakeel's secretary Shona, to the pre surgery at Woodend, the surgery itself and the post surgery care, I felt that I was in the hands of a team who really cared for both each other and their patients.
I was amazed at how the nurses, Lucy and Alison, were so proactive and Zusanna was able to check things without waking me, Dr Catherine covered all the bases even when there was a bit of a problem with my calcium, Mr Shakeel and Ms Padma were fantastic in the way they explained my journey to me and Caitlin the ward healthcare assistant was just wonderful.
As someone who has worked with teams in the past to help their performance, I can honestly say this was the highest performing team I have ever come across. The way that they all took responsibility for my care, whether they were removing my giant thyroid or changing the bed, was really impressive to see.
"The highest performing team I have ever come across."
