"Cancellation after cancellation"

About: Neurology / Multiple Sclerosis Team

(as a service user),

Every month since before Christmas I have received a letter about an MS review. At first I thought  this is good because I had a few issues I.e multiple falls that I felt needed addressing. Then a first cancellation came, followed by a second then a third. I phoned my neurologist secretary who was extremely helpful. She reassured me that I would get an update from her, as promised phoned me following day. I was informed an urgent review was needed and a date was given. So I took it. I may as well stood on my head because yet again this agreed appointment was cancelled. An appointment call handler gave me another appointment date so yet again I took the date. What else have I got to lose.

During this whole process, I haven’t heard from anyone reassuring me about my MS. I only see a general nurse for blood tests. Everyone is very aware of a crumbling NHS system but what is happening is frightening. How do I know if everything is working properly when I am newly diagnosed. I don’t know what to expect.

Thank you for sharing your experience of the MS service within the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. The team are disappointed to hear of the negative experience of our service. It is important that patients feel listened to and we would value the opportunity to discuss your experience with you so we can identify any learning from this. If you would like to contact the hospital complaints team with your details we can look into this further for you and undertake an investigation to help answer the concerns raised.
