"Amazing care"

About: WestMARC (Glasgow) / Wheelchair Courtyard Clinic WestMARC (Lanarkshire) / Adult Wheelchair Clinic

(as a service user),

I had an appointment at WestMARC Motherwell hub recently to see Fiona  for an assessment for an active wheelchair.

I have Hypermobility Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (HEDS) and degenerative spinal disc disease among other issues. I was initially very happy with the service as considering the lack of staff they have to service all wheelchair users in Scotland they were extremely quick for delivery of my first wheelchair. Unfortunately, due to my personal health problems the chair wasn't suitable and after attending an initial review visit at the Queen Elizabeth hub and feeling very listened to, I was told at that visit I would have another appointment sent out for an assessment of my needs. I went into my most recent appointment not feeling very optimistic after some feedback I had seen online about the lack of options and how hard it is to get accepted for the active chairs. I must say that this wasn't the case at all, as long as your needs meet the criteria for the chairs.

I have chronic pain and am not able to lift anything heavy, any movement makes my pain levels worse so trying to maneuver a heavy manual wheelchair just wasn't working for me. Fiona was just amazing, I felt listened to, cared about and like she would do anything for help me. She was very thorough in her assessment to ensure that my new wheelchair will be exactly what I need to assist me in having more independence in my life. I currently have no long term treatment options meaning I will continue to deteriorate and rely more on aids.

I left my appointment yesterday with a massive weight off my shoulders, knowing that in as little as 12 weeks I will have the wheelchair I desperately need. I honestly can't fault the service or Fiona in any way. Previously being embarrassed about needing a wheelchair at the age of 30, I now feel so confident about it. I left crying happy tears and I think nowadays people are very quick to leave poor reviews and not mention the good things that happen.

I want the service and Fiona to know how amazing they have been and that they deserve some recognition for all the time and effort they put in.

I'm delighted that you have had such a listened to experience with Fiona and pleased you have a chair now that meets your needs, and has left you with happy tears. Wishing you all the best with your new chair. I will pass these very positive comments on to Fiona
