I have had a long standing hip problem (arthritis) and was on a waiting list for replacement of my left hip joint. In the interim I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, the treatment of which has left me with moderate heart failure, which was unforeseen and very unusual.
This has meant that I have been transformed from an active, independent and happy retired 60 odd year old, to someone who needs help with completing some basic daily tasks.
This has led to extreme fatigue and physical pain and the frustrations as a result of this "triple whammy" of arthritis, cancer and heart failure, curtailing what was a once active lifestyle.
My outlook on life is much more pessimistic as I can no longer play golf, although I have not given up on playing some limited holes etc. I also am restricted in going walking and gardening.
I have incurred additional expenditure in attending hospitals across the region as well as some heating and car fuel as public transport is no longer an automatic choice in travelling.
Ross's support in completing an application for Attendance Allowance has been invaluable in this journey.
