"Caring, professional and efficient"

About: Victoria Hospital / Endoscopy

(as a service user),

Recalled after bowel screening sample.

I was informed by telephone 5 days later that there was blood in poo sample. Another telephone call a few days later explained what would happen next, the nurse was really lovely and took time to explain the process. The laxitives were posted out. I took them chilled with diluting orange which helped. There is also a sheet sent out advising on which foods to eat. I found that helpful.

Within days I was in for a colonoscopy. You are given a gown and shorts, the shorts open at the back so you have some dignity. I opted for seditive which was the right decision. I felt no pain and it was over rather quickly.

Endoscopist was Dr Wilson. I felt Dr Wilson was caring, professional and efficient. Absolutely excellent doctor.

Dr Wilson took time to explain the process to me and was patient with me, asking if I understood what would be happening and if I had any questions. Dr Wilson put me at ease and I felt safe and that I could trust him. I felt this really helped me. I am so grateful to him for spending the time with me it really helped me when I went in for colonoscopy..

Dear Composer33

Thank you for taking time to feedback about your journey with our bowel screening and endoscopy teams. Firstly thank you for participating in our bowel screening program, it is a very small simple test to do to get peace of mind.

I was delighted to read that you found the pack we sent out so useful especially the diet sheet as we all know when food is taken from us we can't stop thinking about it. The laxative possibly not as pleasant, but it does what is needed for us to perform your procedure safely with good views of the colon.

Colonoscopy is an invasive procedure and due to this we believe your dignity should be kept at all times. The shorts we provide help to maintain that dignity throughout your procedure, due to there being minimal exposure. Thus helping you to feel less vulnerable.

Dr. Wilson is very much a gentleman and as you have mentioned he is very professional. By explaining the procedure step by step to reduce anxiety levels thus helping to keep you relax. Reading your lovely comments I can see you built up an excellent rapport with him. I am so pleased your journey with us from start to finish was so positive. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Kindest regards

Ann Walker SCN
