Who would have believed that 2 cans of beans, a pillowcase, and a bottle of water, would be the accessories for physio exercises.
I am post COVID ICU coma 5 years ago. I not only suffered muscle wastage, but also lost several weeks of my life on a hospital bed.
Last Autumn, I was introduced to Joe, Physical Activity Coach, funded by Friends of the Cancer Centre
I attended 2 face to face consultations. Joe was also able to check in to my file on en Compass, to ensure that any exercise, wouldn’t cause further damage to my already compromised bones( Multiple Myeloma)
I then had to set myself up at home to attend the 12 week online exercise sessions, ensuring that I had a pillowcase, 2 cans of beans, and a bottle of water..
The 45 minute workout was simplistic and very effective. Some exercises were seated, some were standing.
If seen on paper, you’d say that the exercises, each no more than a minute, wouldn’t break sweat. I beg to differ. The exercises, have enabled me to achieve a very simple goal:
To be able to lift my leg independently, to put on my socks. I can now proudly say that, I can.
I have also noticed that my diabetes levels have been lowered , and are maintained. Always proving it by testing after each session.
Never being one to previously exercise regularly, Joe ensured that reminders were sent by text and email before attending the session.
He watches you, as you keep your eye on the horizon, to maintain good posture.
It’s nice to get praise and encouragement during the session.
There is also a gentle reminder to access the youtube videos that he has presented. These are readily available during the week..
I now dip into these YouTube sessions regularly, and also start my day, with elements of the online class exercises.
Thanks Joe, you kept me focussed, and have enabled me to believe, that I can safely move more.
