I unfortunately had both my elderly parents admitted at different times and in different wards/dept within QEUH Glasgow.
My parents are both in their 80s. In both cases every member of staff we interacted with, from the receptionists to the nursing staff, were rude, unhelpful, and did nothing they said they were going to do. Both did not even have a jug of water for over 12 hours.
Nobody seemed to know what the other was doing. There was no communication between staff, patients and family. Would introduce themselves and say they would be looking after you and never returned. Were told not to go to the toilet on their own but when buzzing to get help to go, they were ignored or told to remove the monitor wires and just go. They Messed up medication. Didn't pass on information during hand overs.
One doctor told my dad he had cancer when he had only had an x-ray and sent him home thinking he would die. He still had another week of scans and tests (he actually had a blockage in a bile duct) disgusting behaviour from this doctor
From start to finish of my families experience, I've never seen such badly ran wards and staff that have no bed side manners. People were lying in corridors everywhere, we saw old people sitting in chairs all night long and staff walking by ignoring them. We heard members of staff complaining to visitors how bad it is and saying how nobody cares.
They moved both my parents without tell us 2 or 3 times. We also saw a lack of communication with porters who were left walking around trying to find people booked in for scans. It seems like there was no ward management, no time management. We saw some staff walking about on their mobile phones. We also experienced staff sat at desks chatting and ignoring us when we just wanted to ask a simple question. Absolutely horrendous.
