"Staff members should know better"

About: Western Isles Hospital / General Medicine

(as a relative),

I was happy for my gran to be in the hospital and well looked after - until I noticed that some staff members had been posting images of themselves to social media, in the corridor in their uniforms. It was completely unprofessional and unacceptable

I also thought it was against NHS policy to take pictures in the uniform? Especially when people are lying in their beds unwell and even some dying. Staff members should know better, or at least be made to study these policies.

There was no point saying anything to the staff on the ward either as this didn't seem to be taken seriously.

Dear ariesdy58

Thankyou for taking the time to get in touch with us on Care Opinion and bring this issue to our attention.

First of all I would like to apologise to you, and assure you that this is a matter that the organisation takes very seriously.

We will take steps through our staff communications channels to readvise and reissue NHS Western Isles social media policy and remind staff that they should not be posting images in uniform or taken on health board premises without prior approval from the appropriate department.

Our Executive Team have taken a clear lead on this in reminding Departmental Managers of the policy and to share the requirements of this with their staff teams.

Once again I would like to apologise for any upset this caused you.
Kind regards

Denise Symington
