"Excellent care - elective gynae surgery"

About: Yeovil District Hospital / General surgery Yeovil District Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I recently underwent an elective gynae operation in YDH under the expert care of Mrs Shah and her amazing team.

My care was exceptional on every level. When I arrived I was extremely anxious and on high alert! Nurse Sharon was so kind and empathetic and helped me so much! The anaesthetists and theatre nurses were so lovely and realised I needed a sedative to help with my anxiety before I was knocked out!

When I awoke, in recovery, I was in a great deal of pain but the recovery nurses worked really hard to get it under control for me and I was admitted onto the ward with a PCA.

I was extremely lucky to be put on the Kingston wing where I was looked after perfectly until I was able to go home. The nurses were so professional- Rey, RJ , Marie, Joana, the night staff (who sadly I can’t remember the names of) - thank you! From my bed I could see the kitchen, the ladies and gentlemen that work in there are amazing, always smiling and they work so hard!

I was able to go home after a couple of nights and experienced  a small hiccup when I had an allergic reaction to the Enoxaparin injections that are administered at home. I had been given the GAU helpline number and they assessed me over the phone and made an appointment for the next morning to come in for assessment.

Nurse Sophie and Dr. Miles were brilliant and sorted me out with an alternative medication and reassured me that all was ok! I was also able to have my surgical clips removed in GAU by Nurse Claire who was also lovely and reassuring, what fantastic aftercare YDH provide! Thank you all.

Also, of course, a big thank you to Mrs Shah, you and your team were fantastic and I am so grateful.

I am all too aware of the pressures that all services are under, and so this makes the care delivered by YDH even more exceptional.
