"They made me realise I was not to blame"

About: Thurrock Services / Inclusion Thurrock Psychological Therapies Service

(as a service user),

My therapist was there to listen to me about all the awful things that happened to me has a child and adulthood,  I was emotionally and physically abused through out my life, I felt ashamed of the things that happened and thought it was my fault, my therapist made me realise I was not to blame,  but I do still struggle with things even though I don't blame myself for everything. I still punish myself for some of the things of which I have spoken about during therapy

Hi intensityts67,

Thank you for sharing your experience. It takes a lot of courage to open up about such painful experiences, and I’m truly sorry for what you’ve been through. I’m glad to hear that your therapist helped you recognise that you were never to blame. Healing is a journey, and it’s completely understandable that some struggles remain, but please know you don’t have to face them alone.

Be kind to yourself and keep moving forward at your own pace. Do make use of any learning or resources you used in therapy. You deserve support and compassion—especially from yourself. If it would be helpful for you to consider further therapy in the future, you can refer yourself back to Inclusion Thurrock to discuss this further after a consolidation period of at least 3 months.

Take care,
Ricci Pang
