"My stay in hospital"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

I was taken from home in an ambulance after a stroke. A 9 hour wait for an ambulance to come and a 4 hour wait in the ambulance . This was waiting on a bed in an assessment unit. The wait in the ambulance stops the paramedics doing their job which must frustrate them.

Once inside the hospital the treatment from the staff was exemplary. It could not have been any better. The meals were excellent as was the level of cleanliness.

The only niggle I had was getting discharged to a lounge downstairs to collect my medication. I phoned my wife to come for me and she sat in a car park for over 3 hours. Now I realise beds are very short and leaving the ward was not the problem but a wee heads up about the wait would have been very helpful. Again I will say the staff were fantastic.

Dear John184,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on Care Opinion. I note that your feedback relates to a number of different NHS services. I am writing on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service. I am so sorry to read about your recent stroke and that you had to wait so long for an ambulance. This must have been a very scary and stressful experience and I do hope that you are feeling better now and are making a swift recovery. I am pleased to hear that you felt you received a good level of care and your experience of staff was exemplary.

If you wish I can pass on the feedback to the crews directly. To do so we would need to know the date, time and address that the Ambulance attended and your name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Marie,

Patient Experience Manager

Dear John184

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided by the Emergency Department and Ward 3E within University Hospital Crosshouse.

I sorry to hear that you required admission to hospital following a stroke. I can only imagine how scary and anxious this must have been for you, particularly as you had to wait at home and again in the ambulance before being admitted. However, it is reassuring to know that you then received such exemplary care from our staff.

Our staff really appreciate receiving feedback from their patients, and it will be my pleasure to share your kind comments with the wider Teams in the ED and Ward 3E. I know they will all be delighted to receive this feedback and to know that you felt so well supported whilst you were under their care.

Thank you also for your suggestion of letting patients know of potential waits in the Discharge Lounge while discharge medications are prepared. We will certainly take this on board.

Please accept my best wishes for your ongoing recovery and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge his care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
