"What a help it has been for me"

About: Adult Services / Condition Management Programme

(as a service user),

Well, I have just completed the Condition Management Programme in Enniskillen and what a help it has been for me.

When I started the programme I had no direction or any idea whether I could physically manage getting back to any form of work and also if I would be able to cope with it mentally as well. My life in every way felt out of control, and I was in a rut.

From the start, it was great just to talk over my concerns with Natalie. Her empathy and guidelines to how I could begin to change things step by step, like my eating habits and exchanging negative thoughts with positive ones, were spot on and are invaluable to me.

Shortly after starting, I took a deep breath and managed to start back working part-time. Again, Natalie was able to support me through those initial stages, encouraging me along the way. It was important to get back to walking and especially the exercises my physiotherapist had given me, so I was referred to Malachy in the team.

He was brilliant at showing me the exercises I needed to do for the various problem areas I was experiencing. Just that alone has helped me, especially in encouraging me to actually do them, and there's been a complete mindset change towards exercising as well, so miracles do happen. There is a lot less muscle ache as well, so many thanks for that.

I highly recommend this programme for anyone who needs help physically and mentally to get their head around getting back to work. The main lesson that I've taken from this programme is the importance of self care, foundational to my health and wealth.

Dear NICI,

Your feedback and recommendation of the Condition Management Programme in Enniskillen is most welcome – thank you! We are delighted to learn that the staff you worked with helped you with your physical and mental health needs to enable you to return to work.

You have highlighted how the team approach and empathy shown by Natalie our Occupational Therapist and Malachy our Exercise Practitioner helped you make gradual changes in various aspects of your life e.g. your eating habits, to exchanging negative thoughts etc.

It is interesting that you mention how being shown how to do the exercises helped bring about a change in mind set and encouraged you to actually do them and you have derived benefit with less muscle aches, which is good to hear.

I will certainly pass on your feedback to Natalie and Malachy and encourage them to keep up the good work!

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope it will encourage others to consider the importance of self-care as it can help so much in the management of our physical and mental health as we try to balance it with the demands of busy working lives.

Wishing you all the very best for the future.
