Mum realised herself that she was becoming forgetful and getting very muddled when she was having a normal conversation. As with many dementia sufferers she found it quite difficult to comprehend this was happening to her. We spoke with her about asking the family GP for a memory test, she agreed but I don’t think she was fully ready to accept the outcome.
Hayley came to see Mum in her own home, she’s a very special lady with a talent for putting the patient at ease, despite explaining the implications of dementia she made Mum feel the diagnosis wasn’t the end of the world.
Knowing both myself and Mum can reach out at anytime for advice and guidance is a huge weight off of my shoulders. Caring for someone you love with dementia and deteriorating before your eyes is a very difficult position to be in. Hayley made us both feel that we have help and advice to hand whenever we feel we need it.
