"Prompt and efficient staff"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A2 Paediatrics

(as a service user),

My daughter was treated at the emergency department recently and was subsequently admitted to A2.

I would like to thank all the staff at for how promptly and efficiently she was admitted and cared for. Also for how caring and reassuring everyone was - I can’t emphasise how important that is for parents with a poorly child! Staff even took the time to get us some snacks when we said we hadn’t had anything to eat. Really amazing when I know how busy you all are.

One tiny bit of (I hope constructive) feedback I wanted to give was - when asking questions about the child, for permission for treatments etc. or just when providing information - include and acknowledge the Dad as well! Thank you again.

Dear homamyq99

My name is Peter Johnston and I am the Lead Nurse for Acute Paediatrics with responsibility for A2.

I am very pleased to read that overall your experience of the care for your daughter both in ED and A2 was so positive. I will pass on your kind comments to the staff in both areas and I know that it will make a difference to their day.

You are right in saying the small human gestures make all the difference at a difficult time and I am glad the staff were able to get you some much needed food.

I will raise with staff the need to include dads in the care and decision making as I of course, as a father, understand that we can sometimes unwittingly be left out of such processes.

thank you

Peter Johnston
